McMurry’s NCAA Division III baseball stadium is state of the art for a special reason. The founding coach’s uncle, Walt Driggers, won the Florida lottery and donated the bulk of the construction. The school benefitted with one of the finest small-school baseball stadiums in the south in 1996. After Driggers’ passing in 2024, head coach Josh Lee wanted to continue “Uncle Walt’s” legacy.
A HISTORIC FIELD, REBUILT TO REFLECT THE PROGRAM

The architectural blueprints of Walt Driggers Field were scanned and used as the basis for the background of an 82’ X 9’ cinderblock wall wrap for the program’s indoor hitting tunnel. Elements important to the culture of the school, the baseball program and the city of Abilene, Texas were incorporated. The end result was not just a branding wrap but an illustration of a storied program, a fine stadium and a strong collegiate baseball program.
The exterior aluminum lettering had faded and corroded after nearly 30 seasons of baseball in west Texas, so SI Design hopped on a boom lift and installed a mesh banner spanning 40’ wide and installed 30’ into the air. With Abilene, Texas ranked as the 10th windiest city in the United States, every detail was considered, including grommets every 12” to reduce tension. “Walt Driggers Field” and branding elements were refreshed with dimensional ACM lettering.
